Phyllis M. Causey, M. Ed.
One thing I learned early in my life is that I am very analytical. If something doesn't work, I want to fix it. Computers were perfect for holding my attention. I was always working a a way to do it easily using technology. For me, it is finding the custom solution; it's the one that solves one particular problem for an individual or small business. I have made mistakes and I have learned from them. When you are working with very networks in a company or on a personal computer, there are three words that could make your day and save your job: BACKUP YOUR DATA!
I am self-driven and I really have to like what I do. I am very creative and detail-oriented. I am a hard worker, but I like to work smart. I have found ways to improve productivity in some work places. I created an Electronic Data System for the Office of Teacher Credidation in Texas Southern University's College of Education. If I see a problem, I really want to fix it.
I am a teacher at heart. One of the things that makes me smile is when I think about some of the users I have supported as an IT Network Administrator. I love teaching adults who are trying to improve the condition of their life and they need new skills to increase their job opportunities. I have conducted corporate training classes where I had to analyze which are the most important skills for this particular group to learn, and how willI teach them in a day or two. From my program in Instructional Technology, I learned that it is not only teaching that should concern us, but also learning. How do you measure?
Other skills I have acquired are HTML/CSS, creating databases, and administration of network systems including a Learning Management System (LMS), and its component the Learning Content Management System (LCMS). I love learning. A network, no matter how it is initally installed, will need to grow. There will always be increasing data, and new technology to implement; and there will always be a need for someone like me to analyze, learn, teach, and grow with new knowledge. It's what I love!
